Peter Bruce appointed as Publisher at BDFM
BDFM Publishers, the 50:50 joint venture between Avusa of South Africa and Pearson in the UK, publishers of Business Day and the Financial Mail, is pleased to announce that Peter Bruce, the Editor of Business Day since January 2001, has been appointed Publisher of BDFM with immediate effect. He will retain responsibility for editorial strategy including building a digital and integrated news organisation.

Bruce, 59, has been with BDFM since it was created in 1997, first as Editor of the Financial Mail, before moving to Business Day. Prior to that, he spent almost 20 years with the Financial Times, serving in various capacities in the UK, Germany and Spain.

In a statement, BDFM chairman Michael Spicer said: "I am delighted that Peter has agreed to take up position as Publisher of BDFM. He knows the company and media titles inside out and as editor of Business Day for the last 11 years and previously at Financial Mail, he more than anyone understands the challenges and opportunities the company faces.”

Bruce said he was "humbled" by the appointment. "I am humbled by this appointment as publisher of the BDFM titles and of the Africa Business Channel. I know the BDFM business extremely well and I have been an Editor in the company since its inception in 1997, first of the Financial Mail and more recently at Business Day," he said. "Traditional journalism faces unprecedented challenges but at BDFM we are well equipped for the future.
